Goose Island Root Beer

Description: "Goose Island's deep Chicago roots began in 1988 when its first brew pub opened in the historical Licoln Park. The first Chicago Style Root Beer was brewed in that pub and remains true to the original recipe. Today, Goose Island Craft Sodas continue in the tradition of quality and innovation."

Ingredients: Triple Filtered Carbonated Water, Natural And Artificial Flavors, Caramel Color, Sodium Benzoate, And Potassium Sorbate As Preservatives And Citric Acid

Smell: The first thing you notice is the sassafras smell that comes with every Root Beer. Then you smell hints of anise, and little bit of vanilla. After being poured, the anise smell is weakened quite a bit.

Head: The head on this one isn't very tall, but it still lasts a significant time

Flavor: This is another case where sassafras is the strongest taste, and that's a good thing. However you can really taste the vanilla while drinking, and leaves only the slightest hint of it as an aftertaste. The bite was excellent too, not too strong, but plenty of carbonation. Nothing's worse than a watery Root Beer.

Overall: Goose Island used to be a favorite of mine, but I've tried so many it's hard to really call it that anymore. However, I was really surprised at how it still basically matched my memory of it. Goose Island is still definitely good, and certainly above average. So, B.
